Bohol’s Provincial Health Office (PHO) has reported a decline in the number of active dengue cases, attributing the drop to tighter monitoring and control measures.

According to PHO data, the number of active cases decreased to 670 in the previous week, down from over 1,000 in earlier weeks.

The cumulative number of dengue cases since January 2024 stands at 5,839.

“We are seeing a decline in active cases due to our intensified monitoring and control efforts,” said Dr. Tomas Cezar Lopez, a PHO official.

The declaration of a state of calamity in Bohol is expected to further aid in controlling the outbreak, allowing for the swift procurement of medical supplies and equipment.

District hospitals in the province are currently overwhelmed with dengue patients, while the Gov. Celestino Gallares Memorial Medical Center, a major hospital in Bohol, is also dealing with a surge in admissions.

PHO has expressed hope that the state of calamity declaration will help alleviate the situation and save lives.
