The Philippine broadcast industry lost one of its pillars as GMA Network’s Miguel “Mike” C. Enriquez passed away on Sunday, August 29, 2023. He was 71 years old.
Enriquez was a respected and award-winning journalist who anchored GMA’s primetime newscast “24 Oras” and hosted the investigative show “Imbestigador.” He also held executive positions in the network, such as President of RGMA Network, Inc. and Senior Vice President and Consultant for Radio Operations. He was also the voice behind DZBB’s popular radio programs “Super Balita sa Umaga” and “Saksi sa Dobol B.”
Enriquez started his career in broadcasting in 1969 and joined GMA Network in 1995. He was known for his hard-hitting commentaries, fearless exposés, and public service initiatives. He received numerous accolades for his work, including the Ka Doroy Valencia Award from the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP), the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Rotary Club of Manila, and the Hall of Fame Award from the Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption (VACC).
In a statement, GMA Network expressed its deep sorrow over Enriquez’s demise and extended its condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues. The network also lauded Enriquez’s contributions to the industry and his legacy of excellence and integrity.
“The Board of Directors, management, and employees of GMA Network, Inc. deeply mourn the passing of Mr. Enriquez. His dedication to the industry will serve as an inspiration to all. We pray for the eternal repose of our beloved Kapuso,” the statement read.
Enriquez is survived by his wife Baby and their children Miguelito, Michaela, and Michelle.
