Chatto’s Governance Legacy: A Testament to Effective Leadership in Bohol

A recent episode of the "Lawig sa Pagdumala" program revisited the governance legacy of former Bohol Governor Atty. Edgar M. Chatto, highlighting his achievements during his tenure from 2010 to 2019.

Chatto’s leadership was marked by numerous awards and citations, including being named the Best Governed Province in 2011 and 2012.

Under his watch, Bohol also received a seal of good financial housekeeping and a seal of good local governance.

The province’s economic development was also notable during Chatto’s term, with Bohol being recognized as the most business-friendly province in 2017.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development also awarded Chatto the Gawad Paglilingkod sa Sambayanan for his implementation of the Sustainable Livelihood Program.

Chatto’s individual achievements were also recognized, including the National Lingkod Bayan Award and the Dangal ng Bayan Award, both given by the Civil Service Commission.

He also held leadership roles in various organizations, including the National Young Legislators of the Philippines and the Union of Local Authorities of the Philippines.

Despite facing difficult challenges, including a devastating earthquake in 2013 and an incursion by the Abu Sayyaf group in 2017, Chatto’s leadership helped bring the province to unprecedented heights.

"Chatto’s governance legacy is a testament to his effective leadership and commitment to public service," said Bohol political observers. "His achievements serve as a model for other local government units to follow."

The "Lawig sa Pagdumala" episode, which aired on Sept. 5, 2024, featured a discussion with Chatto’s contemporaries and experts, who shared their insights on his leadership style and the impact of his policies on the province.
