A mayoralty aspirant in Catigbian, Benjie Oliva, has denied any involvement in the distribution of tarpaulins bearing his name alongside that of congressional candidate John Geesnell "Baba" Yap.
Oliva, who is running for mayor in the upcoming elections, clarified that he remains loyal to incumbent congressman Atty. Edgar Chatto, despite supporting Governor Aris Aumentado’s re-election bid.
The tarpaulins in question have sparked speculation about a potential alliance between Oliva and Yap, who is also vying for a congressional seat.
However, Oliva attributed the appearance of the tarpaulins to the fact that some members of his group, Uswag Catigbian, may be supporting Yap due to the governor’s endorsement of Yap as the first district congressman.
Oliva noted that his group, Bando Uswag Catigbian, officially supports Chatto, but acknowledged that individual supporters have the freedom to choose their preferred candidates.
