Tagbilaran City administrator Alvin Acuzar announced that the city’s new identification card for senior citizens may be released as early as next year.
During an episode of DYTR’s Open Forum, Acuzar revealed that the city is currently collecting data from its senior citizen population to be included on the new ID, which is being developed in partnership with digital financial technology provider GCash.
The new ID is expected to have debit card functionality, allowing seniors to receive financial aid from the city and make purchases at merchants that accept Visa-branded cards.
Acuzar said the new ID will also enable seniors to receive funds electronically, eliminating the need for cash or checks. This will be particularly beneficial for seniors who receive milestone age-related aid.
The data collection process is taking time, Acuzar noted, due to the city’s large senior citizen population of at least 13,000.
The introduction of the new ID is part of the city’s digitalization program, aimed at increasing the use of technology to deliver services and make transactions more convenient for residents.
Tagbilaran City has been gradually transitioning towards a more digital approach, with the goal of streamlining services and transactions for its citizens.
