Three lawmakers from Bohol have joined forces to renew the franchise of the Bohol Light Company Incorporated (BLCI), a move that would allow the company to continue operating its electric power distribution system in Tagbilaran City.
First District Congressman Edgardo Chatto, Second District Congresswoman Maria Vanessa Aumentado, and Third District Congresswoman Kristine Alexie Tutor have co-sponsored House Bill No. 10888, which seeks to grant BLCI a new franchise to acquire, establish, operate, and maintain a distribution system for the conveyance of electric power to end-users in Tagbilaran City, Bohol.
BLCI’s current franchise, issued by the National Electrification Commission, is set to expire in October 2025.
The company’s operations are currently managed by Prime Electric Holdings Inc., a subsidiary of Enrique Razon-led More Power, which acquired a 70% stake in BLCI.
The three lawmakers filed the bill electronically on September 10, 2024, and it has been received by the Bills and Services section of the Office of the House of Representatives. The bill is expected to be referred to the House Committee on Franchises for review.
