Police Doubt Kidnap Claim by Dauis Woman

A police chief Bohol has cast doubt on a woman’s claim that she was kidnapped in Dauis, saying her allegations do not match CCTV footage and that she may be involved in the incident.

Lt. Col. John Kareen Escober, police chief of Tagbilaran City, told DYTR radio station on Sept. 23 that the woman’s account of being taken by two men who covered her mouth with a handkerchief does not align with the CCTV footage.

The footage shows the woman was last seen near a drugstore on CPG Avenue, several meters away from the alleged kidnap point behind City Square Mall.

However, she was not seen on CCTV footage behind the mall, and there was no sign of commotion consistent with an abduction.

The woman claimed she was taken to Balilihan, where she lost P15,000 pesos to the suspects.

However, police are skeptical about the robbery motive, as the suspects only took her cash and left her cellphone.

The woman allegedly used her cellphone to call her family after the incident, but she has since been unable to speak about the ordeal, hindering the police investigation.

"We are trying to tie up the loose ends and hope to get additional information to determine the motive behind the alleged kidnapping incident," Escober said.

The police are continuing to investigate the incident, but the woman’s claims remain unverified.
