A group of human resource management practitioners in the Philippines has brought medical and dental aid to a remote island community in Tubigon town, which is struggling to cope with the impacts of climate change.
The Bohol Association of Human Resource Management Practitioners Incorporated (BAHRMPI) held a medical and dental mission last week, at the Tubigon Cultural Center, providing free services to over 400 beneficiaries, including island residents.
The mission was part of the celebration of Civil Service Month, and beneficiaries received not only medical and dental care but also free medicines, food packs, and other goodies pledged by local government units.
The community in Tubigon is facing critical situation due to rising tides and flooding caused by climate change, with seawater sometimes entering homes, classrooms, and community gathering areas.
"We asked barangay officials to facilitate the transport of 50 residents from each of the island barangays, but many more people showed up, and we had to serve them too," said Rogelio Rosco, Tubigon Human Resource and Management Officer IV.
Nearly 20 members of the BAHRMPI brought packed goods from their respective municipalities to support the mission, which was a welcome relief for the community.
The medical mission is a vital lifeline for the community, which is struggling to access basic healthcare services due to its remote location and the challenges posed by climate change.
