Dengue Fever Death Toll Rises to 18 in Bohol

The death toll from dengue fever in Bohol has climbed to 18 since January, with the majority of fatalities being young children, according to the latest data from the provincial health office.

As of October 19, 2024, a total of 8,121 patients have been afflicted with the mosquito-borne disease, representing a 392.5% increase compared to the same period last year.

The top five local government units with the highest number of cases are Tagbilaran City, Inabanga, Ubay, Talibon, and Getafe.

In contrast, last year’s data showed only 1,694 dengue cases and three fatalities.

Health experts reminded the public that preventing mosquito breeding and biting remains the most effective way to control the spread of the disease.

The surge in cases bares the need for sustained efforts to combat the disease, particularly in areas with high incidence rates.

The Bohol provincial government has not yet commented on the latest figures or announced any new measures to address the outbreak.
