The Provincial Legal Office (PLO) in Bohol has defended the province’s governor, Erico Aristotle Aumentado, against allegations of technical malversation in the distribution of vehicles to board members.
The allegations were made by Board Member Mimi Boniel Maglasang, who filed a case against the governor and the late Vice Governor Dionisio Victor Balite.
However, PLO’s Handel Lagunay said in a radio interview that there was no technical malversation involved in the conduct of distributing vehicles to board members.
He added that the governor’s office had borrowed a vehicle on a temporary basis, and that the vehicle was returned when it was no longer needed.
Lagunay also said that the assignment of vehicles to board members was the responsibility of the late Vice Governor Balite, and that the governor had no hand in the process.
The PLO said that all of the processes involved in the reassignment of vehicles went through the proper legal channels, and that the case filed by Board Member Boniel was "moot and academic" since she had already been assigned her own vehicle.
Lagunay also defended the governor against allegations made by a watchdog group that he had acted in his official capacity while under preventive suspension.
He said that the governor had not signed any documents that could be considered misconduct, and that the only time he had entered the Capitol building was to attend the wake of the late Vice Governor Balite.
