BOHOL POVERTY RATE DROPS TO 14.8% IN 2023: PSA

The poverty incidence in Bohol province has decreased to 14.8 percent in 2023, down from 19.1 percent in 2021, according to data released by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) on Tuesday.

The latest figures, presented to Bohol media, indicate a significant drop in poverty rates in the province, which had seen a spike in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The PSA data showed that the poverty incidence in Bohol had risen from 15.5 percent in 2018 to 19.1 percent in 2021, coinciding with the pandemic’s impact on the global economy.

The pandemic’s effects were cited as the main reason for the increase in poverty incidence in Bohol during 2020 and 2021.

However, the latest data indicates that only 190,000 families in Bohol are now considered to be living below the poverty threshold, down from the previous year.

The PSA said the data would be useful in providing targeted interventions to alleviate poverty in the province.
