The Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) of Bohol is considering a new mechanism for granting financial aid to individuals, particularly those in need of assistance to pay hospital bills.
According to reports, SP plans to introduce a guarantee letter system, which would be issued to patients to cover their hospital expenses.
Board member Lucille Lagunay said the provincial government is set to forge partnerships with selected private hospitals in Bohol to honor the guarantee letters, ensuring that the funds are used for their intended purpose.
The current system, which involves issuing vouchers to patients, has raised concerns that the funds may be diverted elsewhere, rather than being used to pay hospital bills.
The proposed new mechanism could prevent abuse and corruption, and ensure that financial aid is used effectively to support those in need, BM Lagunay said.
The move is expected to enhance transparency and accountability of the financial aid system, and will benefit many residents who rely on government assistance to access medical care.
