Candijay, Bohol Mayor Thamar Olaivar, who had initially announced she would not seek re-election, has made a U-turn and will now run unopposed after a surprise change of heart.
According to records from the Commission on Elections (COMELEC), Olaivar, wife of Education Undersecretary Trygve Olaivar, will have no opponent in the upcoming polls.
Olaivar, who is running under the Laban ng Demokratikong Pilipino party led by Education Secretary Sonny Angara, will be joined by incumbent Vice Mayor Christopher Tutor as her running mate.
The COMELEC’s filing season has now closed, paving the way for Olaivar to focus on her development agenda for the town, which she is expected to continue for another three years.
Olaivar’s decision to run again is seen as a boost to her party’s chances in the polls, with her unopposed status likely to ensure a smooth re-election campaign.
