Philippine Politics Polarized Between Marcos and Duterte Factions: Whistleblower

Whistleblower Ronie Orillosa has revealed that the Philippines’ national politics has become polarized, with two dominant factions vying for power: one led by the Marcos family and the other by the Duterte family.

Orillosa made the remarks during an interview with Open Forum where he explained that the country’s political landscape has become focused on these two poles.

He noted that the current political alignments reflect the power centers in the country, with leaders historically gravitating towards the ruling party in Malacañang.

Orillosa pointed out that in the past, the Liberal Party of former President Benigno Aquino III consolidated power from 2010 to 2016, with the polarity at that time being between the Aquino and Macapagal-Arroyo forces.

From 2016 to 2022, President Rodrigo Duterte consolidated power and forged a supermajority in the Lower House, with the polarity shifting to between Duterte and the Aquino/Robredo alliance.

Orillosa said that the current polarity between the Marcos and Duterte factions will likely persist until the next presidential elections in 2028.

He attributed the polarization to the fact that these two factions hold significant forces that remain in power to this day.

When asked about his own political affiliation, Orillosa maintained a neutral stance, saying he would rather prioritize the interests of the majority of the people rather than align himself with a particular faction.
