Dengue cases in Bohol have begun to decline, according to Provincial Health Officer Dr. Tomas Cezar Lopez.
Lopez reported the decrease in cases during the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council’s third quarter meeting at the Capitol last Sept. 30.
The decline is attributed to an aggressive campaign to prevent the spread of dengue in the province, Lopez said.
The campaign has received support from local media, government units, barangay officials, and other agencies.
Earlier this year, dengue cases in Bohol reached outbreak levels, prompting the Sangguniang Panlalawigan to declare a state of calamity.
More than 8,000 dengue cases were reported, and another 20 deaths were included in the record.
Despite the decline, Lopez urged residents to continue practicing preventive measures against dengue, which is primarily spread through mosquito bites.
