The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) consular office in Bohol is expected to open its doors to the public in November this year, according to reports.
Assistant Secretary Adel Cruz provided an update on the office’s status to Rep. Edgar Chatto during a recent meeting.
The office will be located at the Alturas Mall, where preparations are underway to meet DFA standards.
Once operational, the consular office will enable Boholanos to apply for or renew passports without having to travel to other areas.
Observers believe this convenience will encourage more locals to explore travel or employment opportunities abroad.
About 15 personnel will initially staff the office, with recruitment currently underway.
DFA plans to start accepting applications next month, in time for the office’s November opening.
Chatto has been instrumental in bringing the consular office to Bohol, noting that Boholanos previously had to travel to Cebu or Dumaguete to obtain passports.
The new office is expected to reduce hassle and costs for Boholanos seeking to obtain or renew passports.
