Valencia Market Fire Causes P1.5 Million Pesos in Damages

A fire that ravaged a market in Valencia, Bohol last week has caused an estimated P1.5 million pesos in damages, local reports said.

The blaze, which broke out around 10:00 am on September 16, affected 24 stalls in a temporary market area, as the permanent marketplace is still under construction.

The fire spread quickly due to the light materials used in the stalls, but was brought under control by 11:00 am, thanks in part to strong winds that helped to contain the blaze.

Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident.

Valencia Mayor Dionisio Neil Balite personally visited the scene and consoled the affected vendors, while also coordinating with nearby mayors to send assistance to help extinguish the fire.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.
