Loud Muffler Law Needs Better Enforcement in Tagbilaran

CITY COUNCILOR: LOUD MUFFLER LAW NEEDS BETTER ENFORCEMENT

A Tagbilaran City Councilor is calling for stricter enforcement of laws against loud mufflers, saying the existing legal framework is sufficient to address the growing problem of noise pollution.

Councilor Nerio "Butchie" Zamora II made the remarks during an interview over the "Open Forum" program hosted by Ardy Araneta-Batoy and Gloria Leodivica Araneta.

The issue has been raised by residents who have complained about the noise from modified motorcycle mufflers.

Barangay Poblacion 3 captain Felixberto "Bert" Remolador brought up the concern during the City Peace and Order Council’s third quarter meeting in August.

Zamora said the city has ordinances in place that outlaw loud mufflers, but enforcement is lacking.

He urged the traffic management board to implement the existing laws to curb the use of loud mufflers.

The problem stems from motorcycle owners modifying their vehicles’ stock mufflers to produce louder sounds.

Zamora called on the police and city traffic authorities to conduct operations against loud mufflers, citing the increasing number of motorists using modified mufflers and the disturbing noise they generate.

By enforcing the existing laws, Zamora believes the city can reduce noise pollution and address the concerns of Tagbilaran residents.
