DBM Launches P1-Billion Water and Sanitation Project with Participatory Budgeting

The DBM launched a P1.0 billion project to provide water and sanitation to 75 towns in Cebu City on February 21.

The project, led by DBM Secretary Amenah F. Pangandaman, is called the Support and Assistance Fund to Participatory Budgeting (SAFPB) and will be funded by the Local Government Support Fund – SAFPB.

The project will benefit five LGUs in Quezon, four in Bohol, and four in Lanao del Norte, among others, by ensuring safe and resilient water and sanitation services.

The project will also involve participatory budgeting, where government officials and civil society groups will jointly decide, implement, and monitor the projects. This is part of the DBM’s effort to foster open government in the country.

The project launch was done in partnership with the DILG, which was represented by Secretary Atty. Benjamin C. Abalos Jr., Undersecretaries Marlo L. Iringan and Atty. Odilon L. Pasaraba, DENR Undersecretary Dr. Carlos Primo C. David, and NEDA Assistant Secretary Roderick M. Planta.
