A 16-year-old boy suffered an eye injury after a firecracker exploded near him in Barangay Canmanico, Valencia, Bohol on Christmas day.

According to his brother Loydel, the victim and his cousin were playing with kwitis, a type of firecracker that shoots up in the air, around 12 noon. They planned to light their kwitis at the same time and watch them collide in the sky, but his cousin lit his first and the victim was delayed by some passersby.

The victim did not notice that his cousin’s kwitis was already flying towards him and failed to dodge it. The firecracker hit him in the eye and caused it to bleed profusely.

The victim was immediately assisted by his relatives and brought to the nearest hospital. He was later transferred to the Gov. Celestino Gallares Memorial Medical Center for further treatment. He is currently in the emergency room and in stable condition.

The local police are investigating the incident and reminding the public to be careful when using firecrackers during the holiday season.
