Bohol Police Officers Honored for Saving Kidnapped Chinese National

A group of police officers from the Bohol Provincial Police Office (BPPO) received awards from the Overseas Chinese Service Center Cebu, Bohol Office, for their heroic rescue of a Chinese national who was kidnapped by armed men last month.

The awarding ceremony was held on November 17, 2023 at the office of BPPO Provincial Director PCOL Lorenzo Alfeche Batuan, who was also among the recipients of the “Life Saving Award”. The other awardees were PLTCOL Joemar S Pomarejos, PLTCOL John Kareen O Escober, PCPT John Khalev Diel Sanchez, PLT Kentbel Ceasar V Parcon, PLT Thomas Zen B Cheung, and PLT Johnrey Olid.

The Chinese national, whose name was not disclosed for security reasons, personally handed the plaques of recognition to the police officers and expressed her gratitude for saving her life. She said that she could not have survived without their help and praised their swift and professional action.

The kidnapping incident happened on October 15, 2023, when the victim was abducted by four armed men while she was walking along Alona Beach in Panglao Island. The kidnappers demanded a ransom of P50 million from her family and threatened to kill her if they did not comply.

The BPPO, with the assistance of the Philippine National Police Anti-Kidnapping Group (PNP-AKG), launched a rescue operation that resulted in the arrest of three of the kidnappers and the recovery of the victim. The fourth kidnapper was killed in a shootout with the police.

PCOL Batuan thanked the Overseas Chinese Service Center Cebu, Bohol Office, for the recognition and said that it would boost the morale of the BPPO personnel. He also assured the public that the BPPO would continue to uphold its mandate of maintaining peace and order and protecting the lives and property of the people in Bohol.
